Successful work experience placement of East Bergholt High School student at two10degrees21/7/2016
From 11 July 2016, the two10degrees team were lucky enough to be joined by East Bergholt High School student, Cami Hawes-Harlow, for a work experience placement. During her time at the Ipswich-based office, Cami worked on various programming projects under the guidance of Liam Daley, a Consultant at two10degrees. She created a web app that shows recent Police Crime statistics in Suffolk on a map. The web app enables users to select an area on a map and load markers for incidents during a particular timeframe. Clicking on each marker displayed further details like the crime type, recording authority and date. Cami was able to utilise and develop her skills and knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, as well as the Leaflet JS library. Further to this, Cami also wrote a Python script that converted CSV raw data from the Police Crime statistics website, into JSON, which is much more useful for building web apps. Writing this code meant she will be able to download, convert and use the data for any region and date range, without having to make any changes to her code.
“We wish Cami the best of luck for the future. She did some great work while she was here and demonstrated a natural flair for programming. She was very capable and had very little trouble completing the tasks I set her. She should be very proud of what she managed to achieve in such a short period of time.” Liam Daley, Consultant, two10degrees Two10degrees believes “there’s more to software than writing code” and recognises the importance of giving back to the community by nurturing the talent of young people.
